I love movies and am an avid collector. Some movies are an absolute must to have at home. If you feel the same way then keep track of the day of September 1st. That is the day that you can put the State Of Play DVD in your home collection. This particular film hit me so hard that I was compelled to go and pre-order it. I will be waiting for delivery as soon as it comes out. Sometimes when a movie is that good you just need to do that.
If you are wondering what the basis for creating this film was it came out of a miniseries that was on BBC during the 2003 season. The movie takes all of those intense 6 hours and channels it into 2. Those two hours will suck you into the intrigue and mystery and hold you with the suspense. It is political in nature and is full of hard hitting newspaper journalism and interesting sexual impulses.
There are plenty of stars to see in this film. Ben Affleck is the US Congressman named Stephen Collins. Crowe is a reporter, named McCaffrey, that won't take no for an answer. Both of these guys are somehow tangled up in a whole line of murders. there is a mystery as to why all these murders are also mixed up with some political bigwigs. Collins is on his way to the top of political life until his assistant is killed and all this stuff comes out. It just gets deeper and more complicated as what these people mean to each other becomes more clear.
There is an excellent plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The entire underlying story pulls you into the depths between these people. There are some nice extras in the DVD. My favorite being deleted scenes. It seems like it always adds something to a movie when you get to see all those bits that were cut out. There some good interviews as well. The Director discusses different aspects of how they made the movie and Rachel McAdams has some things to say too. A great addition to your collection without a doubt.
